'Today, one in five Americans is unemployed, underemployed or just plain out of work. One in nine families can't make the minimum payment on their credit cards. One in eight mortgages is in default or foreclosure. One in eight Americans is on food stamps. More than 120,000 families are filing for bankruptcy every month. The economic crisis has wiped more than $5 trillion from pensions and savings, has left family balance sheets upside down, and threatens to put ten million homeowners out on the street.'

Stating the blindingly obvious
The REV TIM POWER powered into the controversy surrounding Christmas celebrations (or the perceived lack of them) in Nairn with a letter to the Nairnshire Telegraph. He said:
"The December date for Christmas appropriates some pagan religious festivals which pre-date the birth of Jesus. For example; in Julius Caesar's time worship and a December solstice festival was given over to the 'undefeated sun god' ".
Interesting Mr Power. Earlier in your letter you stated 'By turning away from the real 'reason for the season' we fall into the danger of celebrating nothing other than a period of swapping gifts and self-indulgence.' Now surely Mr Power it is the failure of Christian values and not Pagan ones that have allowed Christmas to become what it has become. Leave the pagans alone, how many wars have they started since the one they had against the Romans?
